Roy T. "Tony" Cairns

Roy T. "Tony" Cairns, 69, passed away on September 18, 2009. Tony retired from Ford Motor Co. in 1995 after 30 years of service. He and his wife started their family-owned business, North Hill Salvage Store, in 1975. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church for 40 years. Tony loved the Lord and displayed it through his love and kindness to his family and many friends. Tony enjoyed being a member of the Akron Silver Masters Softball team since its start in 1992. They played tournaments around the country and won several National Championships. He also played many years on the Grace Baptist Church team with his sons and grandson and the Akron Silver League. Preceded in death by his parents George and Theola Cairns; brother George Cairns; and his parents-in-law Jack and Ginnie Sohl. Survivors include his wife Carol; sons Steven (Bernadette), Michael (Becky), Craig (Amanda); grandchildren Krystal, Emily (Mark) Lovette, Michael, and Logan; sister Millie Hall; sister-in-law Cathie Cairns; brother-in-law Buck (Karole Jo "K.J."); many nieces and nephews; and best friend of 65 years, Steve Pergins. Calling hours will be Monday, 4-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where a funeral service will be held Tuesday at Noon, with Pastor Phil Hulgin officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
