Roy F. "J.R." Wilkins Jr., 78, passed away Sunday, July 17, at his home.
J.R. was a lifelong resident of the Akron area, was a World War II veteran, and retired from the General Tire Company in 1983.
J.R. was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. A true handyman, J.R. was always eager to lend a helping hand to others. His gentle spirit and warm sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
J.R. is survived by his best friend and wife of 51 years, Beverly; sons Barry of Seffner, Fla., and David and wife Lori of Green, Ohio; grandchildren Wendy Dobbins and husband Art of Akron,Ohio, Barry and Tom Wilkins of Seffner Fla and Ben and Julianne Wilkins of Green, Ohio; great grandchildren Artie, Adam and Anna Dobbins; brother Grant and wife Kathleen Wilkins of Uniontown, Ohio; sisters Lucille and husband Delbert Gibson of Copley, Ohio, and Louise Warren of Rittman, Ohio.
Friends may call from 6-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 21 at Newcomer Funeral Home at 131 N. Canton Road (330-784-3334). A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22, at the funeral home.
