Ruby Marie (Redd) Witchey passed to her heavenly reward on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at Summit Villa Care Center, holding hands with her husband, son, and daughter-in-law. Ruby was born April 19, 1923 in Belmont, Ohio to Carl and Mildred Redd. She was a June 1941 graduate of Central High School. She enlisted in the U.S. Navy Waves in 1943 and served for 25 months as a Storekeeper Second-Class, mostly at accounting assignments at various bases around the country. While still in the service, she wed her high school sweetheart, Don, who had been discharged from the Navy the week before, thus beginning a 55 year marriage. She was a homemaker, raised two children, and was highly skilled in all forms of needlework, with her favorite being counted cross stitch. She was a member of the Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, having served a term on the Memorial Committee. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Eleanor Hunter; and daughter, Mildred Ann Zamiska in May of 1999. She is survived by her husband, Donald W.; son, D. Edward and his wife Pam; son-in-law, Alan P. Zamiska; grandchildren, Andrew Alan Zamiska and Jennifer Dawn Zamiska of Omaha, NE; aunts, Mary C. Baker of Navarre, OH and Irene May Parsons of Anchorage, Alaska; many nieces and nephews; next door neighbors and longtime friends, Jim and Sue Wagner and Jim and Jill Nelson. Calling hours will be Tuesday, September 18th from 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Blvd. with Mr. John Phillips officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend thanks to all the caring staff at Summit Villa Care Center and VNS Hospice Service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Goodyear Heights Baptist Church.
