Ruby C. Zabel, 89, passed away on July 8, 2006 surrounded by her family. She was born in Kentucky and lived most of her life in Akron, Ohio. Ruby was a resident of Heather Knoll Nursing Home for the past six years. She was a devoted wife, caring sister, and loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents, Albert and Elmer Mills, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sons, Carl and Kenneth Zabel; and brother, Bob Mills. She is survived by her daughter, Carole (Clyde) Pierson of Brimfield, OH; grandchildren, Susan Moore, John Pierson, Mark Pierson, Tammy Brady, Denise Snyder, Carla Williams, Tracy Adkins, Kenny Zabel, Jr., Danny Zabel, and Vickie Humphrey; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Leonard) Goff of Pomona, CA; daughter-in-law, Barbara Zabel; nephew, Marvin Zabel; and nieces and nephews in California. The family wishes to acknowledge the care and compassion given to Ruby by the aides and nurses at Heather Knoll Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 -2 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park.
