Russell B. Nichols

Russell B. Nichols, 92, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 24, 2014. With family at his side, he was able to share anecdotes and memories so very special to all. He was born December 31, 1921 in Cambridge, OH, Russell moved to Akron in '32 and had resided in Suffield for the last 40 years. After serving in the Army during WWII, he was employed by BF Goodrich where he worked for 42 years. He then served as custodian at Suffield Elementary. An avid sports enthusiast, he coached baseball and football in both Akron and Suffield.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents Herschel and Ethel Nichols , dear son Frank Nichols, sister Clare Sager, and brothers; Jack, Dick and Jim. A loving and devoted husband of 72 years, he is survived by his wife Helen (Raymond), daughter Helen (Tony) Franjesh, son Dan (Barbara), daughter-in-law Michele, grandchildren; Todd (Peggy) Nichols, Tina (Ed) Buehrle, Jami (Jeff) Dunphy, Jonelle (Geno) Milchak, Tamara, Ty and Jillian Nichols, Jocelyn McKnight and Jenna (Jeff) Stroud, sister Lila Danner, brother-in-laws Don (Ann) and Will (Adelaide) Raymond, sister-in-law Patti Raymond, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. He loved family dearly and there are so many cousins, nieces and nephews that were special to him.

Russell enjoyed life and his was long and well-lived. The family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and staff in the ICU at Summa during his last days. Hon, Dad, Gramps, Russ, Great-Grandpa - we will miss your bright eyes, hearty chuckle, love of eating, and kidding ways. As Grandpa said, "Well, the party is over." Enjoy your cake!

Friends and family may call 5-8 pm Thursday, February 27, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, February 28, 2014 at St. Joseph Church, 2643 Waterloo Rd, Mogadore, OH 44260 with Fr. Thomas S. Acker, S.J., Ph.D. presiding. Final resting place will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Suffield Township Fire Dept., 1256 Waterloo Road, Mogadore, OH 44260.
