Russell T. Cozart Sr.

April 11, 1939 — December 16, 2020

Russell T. Cozart Sr., 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 16, 2020. Born on North Hill in Akron on April 11, 1939, Russ was a carpenter by trade and belonged to the Carpenters Union Local 285. He is survived by his wife, Betty Cozart, the love of his life for 42 years. He was known as a perfectionist in his trade and his work product was a testament to that. Over the years, Russ enjoyed traveling with Betty in their fifth wheel, golfing, fishing, hunting, singing and playing his guitar, and in the words of his late father, "Working on the house." He was fun to be around and his smile and laughter would illuminate a room.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Louise Cozart; his brothers, Ron "Red", Jerry, and Don; and his son, Doug. He is also survived by his brother, Jim; his sister, Sandra Bragg; sons, Russell II, Russell Jr., Clay, Todd, and Jeff; god daughter, Carla Johnstone; many special nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Respecting his wishes, a private burial will take place at Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The family hopes to have a small graveside remembrance and celebration of life on his birthday in 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Eternal Flame Fund c/o The Fraternal Order of Police, Akron Lodge 7, 2610 Ley Dr., Akron, Ohio 44319.
