Russell A. Pitman

Russell A. Pitman, 86, passed away November 21, 2004. Russell was born in Akron on October 2, 1918 and lived in the area his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a POW in Germany for 27 months. He retired from the City of Akron Highway Department. Russell was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Akron for 59 years. He also belonged to VFW Post 3383, the Disabled Veterans, and the North Central Ohio Chapter 8 American Ex-Prisoners of War. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; daughter, Candace (Mark) Manning; son, Emery (Linda) Pitman; grandchildren, Michael McCreery, Shannon McCreery, Leah McCreery, Kylie Spring, Megan Pitman, and Mark Manning, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Alex and Kayla Copeland and Neeley and Jaycee Jones; goddaughter, Allison Jones. Friends and family may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER-FARLEY FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Robert W. Tauscher, Jr. of Concordia Lutheran Church officiating. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
