Ruth Cown Brown
Ruth Cowan Brown departed this life on February 14, 2005. She was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee on September 3, 1920 and has lived in Akron (Ohio) since 1945. Ruth had worked at the United Coffee Shop, M. ONeil Company, and the Bear Furniture Company, and retired from the Lawsons Milk Company with 17 years of service in 1966. In 1986 she went back to work as a caregiver for eight older people with Alzheimers Disease. She retired for the second time on June 20, 1999 at the age of 79. She was an avid gardener, producing many beautiful flowers that she shared with her friends and neighbors. She served as a volunteer for many worthy causes including the drive for obtaining signatures for the Ellet Community Center. She was a member of AARP #2473 and served as their secretary for 4 years. She loved playing cards, bingo, traveling and writing. Her membership in Ellet Keenagers and the Bingo and Euchre club of Ellet brought her much enjoyment. On April 18, 2004 she received the Community Service Award for her outstanding service to the Ellet community where she lived for 45 years. She was an active member of Arlington Memorial Baptist Church for the past 20 years. Her wishes are to be sent to Fayetteville, TN to be with her loving family in the Rolling Hills Cemetery which her grandmother, Alice Moore Locker founded. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Shirley Brown and leaves 3 sons: Ray (Marianna) Brown of Uniontown, OH; Dr. Rick Brown of Kansas City, MO; and Rodney (Christine) Brown of Tallmadge, OH as well as six granddaughters, Tammy Zehner of Louisville, OH; Crystal Bower of Brimfield, OH; Ruhiyyih Green of Chapel Hill, NC; Alyssa and Ashley Brown of Tallmadge, OH; and Danielle Brown of LaVeta, CO; two grandsons, Joshua Brown of Tallmadge, OH; and Nathaniel Brown of LaVeta, CO; three great-granddaughters, Megan and Jordan Bower; and Samantha Zehner; two nieces, Joyce Robinson of Fayetteville, TN and Karen Cooper of Mogadore, OH; and one nephew, Glenn Cowan of Smyrna, TN. A funeral service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home on Wednesday at 8:30p.m. with Pastor Donald Davies officiating. Calling hours will be from 5-8:30 on Wednesday at the funeral home. The body will be sent to Higgins Funeral Home in Fayetteville, TN for further services and final interment in the Rolling Hills Cemetery.
