Ruth Frances Kinney Loomis Raymond
Ruth Raymond (Kinney) went to be with the Lord on November 20, 2010 at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House. Mrs. Raymond was born Ruth Frances Kinney on May 28, 1917 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, one year before her father, Howard Franklin Kinney, died of Spanish Influenza in 1918. Her mother, Flora Welton Kinney Taylor departed life on July 5, 1971. Mrs. Raymond was preceded in death by husband, Howard Elwood Raymond whom she married on January 9, 1969, her first husband, William R. Loomis; and brother, Walter Allen Taylor. She is survived by five children: Bonnie Loomis of Warren, Beverly K. Miller of Austintown, Stanford L. Loomis (Elena) of Howland, Donald W. Loomis (Donna) of Berlin Center, and Dale S. Loomis (Sue) of Niles. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Eric Miller (Linda), Jennifer Miller Betts, MaryBeth Loomis Siegfried (Andrew), Cheri Loomis McCandless (James), Bill Loomis (Pam), Shannon Loomis Gondol (Jeremy), Nichole Loomis Calderhead (Scott), Heather Loomis (Phillip), Christopher Loomis (Christine), Aimee Loomis DeMaria (Dan), and Carrie Loomis Fleming (A.J.). Surviving also are 10 great-grandchildren: Craig and Karina Betts, Rachel and Walter Siegfried, J.R. and Kaitlyn McCandless, Savin, Crayton, Aviona, and Zaria Calderhead, Payton and Gavin Loomis and Braydon DeMaria. In addition she has five stepchildren: Gary, James, Marlin, and Kirk Raymond and Eunice Hamiuc. Ruth graduated from Salem, Ohio, High School and Ithaca, New York. After raising her five children she returned to Kent State University for a Home Economics in Business Degree with majors in Child Development and Family Relationships. She maintained a home nursery school and was a teacher for Akron Head Start in its beginning years starting in 1965. She was a dietician at Girl Scout Camps and St. Joseph Hospital. She volunteered for 15 years as a Girl Scout Leader and Trainer in Newton Falls. She also taught Sunday School for many years. During World War II she was active in Civil Defense work. Mrs. Raymond especially loved children and working with them, both at home and the church nursery. Ruth was a member of Goodyear Heights Baptist Church in Akron. She loved to sing in the choir, and was a member of the Seniors and other organizations in church. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Portage Chapter in Akron, the Suffield Friendship Garden Club and Reservoir Seniors. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at Goodyear Heights Baptist Church, 1767 Goodyear Blvd., Akron beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. John E. Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the service begins.
