We regretfully announce the passing of Ruth Marie Ress of Ravenna, Ohio on November 8, 2022. She was born on April 21, 1940 to Joseph and Dorothea Fleming.
In 1957, she met Robert on a blind date at Springfield roller rink, they married in 1960 and together they went on to have 5 children. Ruth was a wonderful and loving mother who gave her all to her family. She was very creative and in a way to keep all of her kids busy, she started making Christmas crafts with her children and selling them. This turned into finding her passion for creating bridal bouquets, veils, and centerpieces. She opened and owned her own bridal floral business called "Simply Elegant".
She loved to host family reunions annually for 40 years at her home up until 2015. By hosting these reunions, she created a greater friendship and relationship with all the cousins. Had she and Bob not done this, so many of us would be without knowing so many of our "distant" cousins, something that gets lost over generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Dorothea Fleming. As well as her brothers, David, Joesph and James; her sister, Maureen; and special friend, Bill Vanderhoff.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Robert Ress. Her siblings, Robert "Benny" (Mary) Fleming and Patrica "Patty" (Bill) Llewelyn; her sons, Robert Jr. (Denise), John (Angel) and Theodore (Donna); her daughters, Victoria (Dave) Shirey and Jacqueline (Lance) Woodring; her grandchildren, Angelene (Jeremy) Finch, Nikole (Brian) Swansiger, Hannah Shirey, Jacob Ress, Dakota Smallridge and Shawn (Shelia) Barone; her great-grandchildren, Brayden, Charles, Averie Finch; Connor & Sophia Swansiger, and Danie Workman; special friend, Marie Vanderhoff.
She was a class act and impacted so many and accepted everyone into her home. She will be truly missed by so many of us.
Visitation will be held Friday November 18, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. following with a service at 5:00 P.M., with Pastor Steve Neumeyer officiating, at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron.
The family invites you to sign the online guest book and share fond memories.
