Ruth Laura Smith

Ruth Laura Smith, age 84, of Akron, Ohio, died on November 15, 2022 in Akron.

She was born in Lake Village, Arkansas on May 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Clarence and Helen (nee Humphrey) Davis.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She enjoyed doing things in her community such as being a Summit County poll worker during elections and CAC Representative for her Neighborhood. Ruth was a member of the Tower of Prayer Church of God and a former member of St. Thomas Baptist Church and its' choir.

Survivors include her children, Shirlyn (Gregory) Brinson, Mary Bell, Narkeetah (Kenneth) Sneed, Derrek Smith, Stanley Thomas, James "JR" Smith, Rubin L. Smith; daughter-in-law, Laverne Smith; son-in-law, Michael Bell and a host of honorary sons and daughters. Also surviving are her many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Mabel Armstrong, John L. (Edna) Davis and James (Bessie) Davis; sister-in-law, Bobbie Davis; honorary sisters, Eunice Brinson and Joyce Keller.

Other than her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, Garland Smith, Sr. daughter, Billie Joyce Web; grandsons, Dierre Smith, Sr. and Bernard Antoine; granddaughter, Willnique Antoine; great-grandson, Tyree Halsell, Jr.; and her siblings, Annie, Clarence (Ruby), Nebraska, Ira and Willie (Beatrice) Davis.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at United Baptist Church, 1007 S. Hawkins Ave., Akron OH 44320, where family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.

Ruth will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park, Akron.
