Samuel "Sam" L. Hayden, 82, of Akron, Oh., passed on January 10, 2022. Sam served as an alter boy at St. Matthews Church during his grade school years and continued to be a member throughout his life. He graduated from Ellet High School. He went on to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam era as a Military Policeman, stationed in Germany from 1963 to 1965, with honors as a Sharpshooter and Marksman.
Over the years, Sam enjoyed volunteering with the Soap Box Derby and participating as an Indian Guide with his sons. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed shooting guns, fishing, camping, and hiking/walking with his family. And his dog, Cindy Lou. Sam was a member of the American Legion and the Moose club with his wife Janice. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after over 35 years.
Sam was proceeded in death by his grandfather, Samuel L. Hayden: and his father Virgil L. Hayden.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 61 years Janice Hayden; sons, Michael (Tina) Hayden, and Douglas (Tina) Hayden; mother, Helen Hayden; brother, Donald (Arlene) Hayden; sister, Linda Hayden; eight grandchildren, Jacqueline, Kyle (Ashlee), Chelsea, Kristin, Ericka, Amber, Myranda, Kathryn, and 4 great grandchildren.
Sam will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery 10175 Rawiga Rd, Seville, OH 44273 on April 8th at 2:45pm.
