Samuel W. Oaks Jr.

Samuel W. Oaks Jr., 84, passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2016. Samuel was born on August 13,1931 in Akron, Ohio to Samuel W. Sr. and Cordia Oaks. Sam was a lifelong resident of Edinburg and a longtime member of the Edinburg United Church. He was involved with many public service organizations. He was an electrician for over 50 years, and a member of IBEW 306 of Akron. He retired from Oaks Electric Inc. in 2002, and began teaching electrical contractors continuing education courses until his death. Sam retired in 2013 from the Portage County Sheriff's Department. He was an active member, sponsor, and speaker for many Alcoholic Anonymous Chapters.

Samuel is preceded in death by his parents;son, Terry L.Oaks
sister, Betty Wainscot; brothers-in law, Les Wainscot and Robert Markley Sr..

He is survived by his son Samuel M. (Jenifer) Oaks of Edinburg as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memory his companion,Loretta Nichols.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, January 17, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home,131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44305. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. also at Newcomer Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Edinburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Edinburg United Church building fund in Samuel's honor.
