Sandra Gallimore (nee Skinas), 70, passed away October 20, 2021. While she survived a near fatal battle with cancer 30 years ago, the damage from the fight eventually took its toll and her life. She's now in God's loving care.
She was born August 20, 1951. She was preceded in death by her fathers Joseph Pastor and Neale Skinas and her mother Velma Skinas. She leaves behind her husband of 48 years Donald, sons Ronald and wife Gretchen, Jeff and significant other Lindsay, grandchildren Colton and Camden, sisters Carolyn McLaughlin and Rebecca Piernik and her husband Robert and beloved friends Chris and Kim.
She was a 1969 Graduate of Cuyahoga Falls High School, attended Akron University where she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. After raising her children, Sandra became active in politics serving on campaign staff for numerous local, State and National candidates, eventually becoming the office manager of the Summit County Democratic Party. During this time, she had one of the more memorable events of her life when she had the opportunity to meet the then Senator and former Astronaut John Glenn and ask him "Senator, what was it like up there?" to which he replied, as she recounted, with a distant gleam in his eye, "Amazing". After her bout with cancer, she returned to work at the Summit County Fiscal Office where she remained until her retirement. She was a member of St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church in Norton.
The family will receive friends and family on Monday, October 25 from 5 to 7 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held there at 11 AM Tuesday, Pastor Curtis Stephens presiding. Internment immediately following at Glendale Cemetery in Akron.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of the many Departments at Summa City Hospital for their kindness during the past two weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to be sent to One of a Kind Pets, 1929 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44313.
