Great nieces McKenzie, Karleena and Elycia. Great nephews Jaidyn, Riley, Dane and Dylan.
Sheila was at a disadvantage when she was born. Our parents took that challenge and made us all teachers to help Sheila live her best life. Anyone that met Sheila loved her and she was loved by many. She was a joy and had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a comeback or comment that would make you laugh. Sheila never forgot a birthday or anniversary. Your birthday wasn't complete until she called you to sing happy birthday. She even remembered relatives who had passed and reminded you it was their birthday.
Sheila loved flamingos and had quite the collection; she also loved all things purple and leopard. Sheila was able to go on many trips with the Catholic Youth Organization, with her favorite being Nashville.
Sheila spent many Saturday nights going to Weaver and then Camp Christopher to be with her friends through CYO.
Sheila loved music with country being her favorite. She could tell you who an artist was when she heard them. My mother and Sheila were buddies after our father passed and enjoyed listening to music together.
Sheila excelled in her early years in school and graduated from Weaver school. She moved to the workshop where she enjoyed working and being productive in that setting. Sheila was transferred to United Disability Services and loved working at both the South Main (Bob Ewing "Drew Scott") and Firestone facilities with the great staff at both places.
Thank you to Helen "Hun," Bobby and Gina for being extended family since Sheila was a baby and loving her through the years. Also to our Aunt Lois for filling in for our mom after she passed when we went to Amish country or just for rides to get a change of scenery.
All of us sisters were able to share "Sheila stories" with our co-workers and they were able to get to know her personality through those stories. When we'd meet they would ask if we had any "Sheila stories."
Special thanks to Peggy Gates, her case manager and our 6th sister! The love and care you have had for her over the years was so special. You know she loved to argue with you just for the sake of arguing.
Also thank you to Debbie and Bouffant for taking Sheila for coffee and also keeping her in Bath and Body works lotions! She loved her smelly stuff!
Special thanks to Carol and Brenda in Radiology who every Thursday for the past few years made Sheila feel special when we waited for her appointment. Also to Pawendeep, Jody and the rest of the ladies who took great care of her in Ultrasound, along with the doctors who she had nicknames for! And also the ladies in Private Outpatient that were kind enough to give her a few of the big alcohol wipes since she didn't like the small ones!
Thank you to all of the nurses and doctors at Summa that took care of Sheila the past few months, we greatly appreciated the care everyone gave to her. Special thanks to Dr. Raina for your care of Sheila, she loved when we came for appointments and when you visited her in the hospital. Also to Dr. Hughes, Suzette and Kirston for the care and trying to help Sheila during her stay in ICU. Thank you to the kind nurses in hospice that took care of her the final few days.
Family and friends are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Monday, February 14, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. until her funeral service begins at 12:00 p.m., with Pastor Paul J. Pamer officiating. A committal service will follow in the mausoleum chapel at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, where Sheila will be laid to rest with her parents.
If you cannot attend, that's ok, if you can, please wear your purple, leopard or flamingo attire, or celebrate Sheila in your own way.
We are probably skipping many people but know we appreciate the love and kindness that you have given Sheila over the years. Our hearts are broken but know that she is at peace.
In lieu for flowers, we would appreciate donations be made in her name to United Disability Services, 701 South Main Street, Akron, Ohio, 44311-1019.
