Shelby Gail Chesko

September 25, 1935 — April 20, 2024

Shelby Gail Chesko, 88, passed away on April 20, 2024. She was a woman of strong faith and now resides in Heaven with her Savior. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on September 25, 1935 to the late Carson Alden and Mary Brundage. She graduated from Allegheny College with a teaching degree and spent several years teaching history in Pennsylvania before moving with her family to Parma, Ohio, where she taught study hall at Brecksville Middle School. She was a member of Divinity Lutheran Church in Parma Heights and later belonged to Christ the King in Twinsburg. She enjoyed volunteering and joining in various church activities. In her free time, Shelby enjoyed reading, playing computer games, and rooting for all the Cleveland sports teams. She also loved animals and had several beloved pets over the years.
Shelby will always be remembered for her generosity, putting others before herself. Her family and friends could always count on her to lend a hand when they were in need. She was very compassionate and offered comfort and sound advice to others when they faced challenges. Although Shelby faced her own challenges, she always maintained a positive attitude and determined spirit. She believed the adage "When God closes one door, He opens another." Her strength was a great example to others. She was a wonderful mother and will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Shelby is survived by her son, Matt Miller; lifelong friend, Jean (Ron) Olson; and sister-in-law, Irma Chesko.
Per Shelby's wishes, her family will celebrate her life privately.

"God grant me the serenity
To accept the things
I cannot change
Courage to change
The things I can,
And wisdom
To know the difference."

"In my Father's house there are many mansions. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may also be. Where I am going you know the way. I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:1-6

"Oh, the wind beneath my wings
You, you, you, you are the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly away, you let me fly so high
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Oh, you, you, you, the wind beneath my wings
Fly, fly, fly high against the sky
So high I almost touch the sky
Thank you, thank you
Thank God for you, the wind beneath my wings"

"Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose"
