Shirley Jane Bittinger, 86, passed away November 26, 2019 surrounded by her family. Born in Barberton, Ohio to Bill and Ethel (Lowry) Simons, she was a lifelong area resident. Shirley belonged to the Arlington Church of the Nazarene and was the pianist for many years there. She enjoyed reading the Bible, playing hymns, singing songs, watching wildlife and enjoying all of God's creations.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, David L. Bittinger; granddaughter, Rachel, great grandsons, Micah and Grayson; sisters, Goldie and Mary. She will be sadly missed by children, Gail Bittinger, Carol Bogdanovich, Mari (Greg) McNichols, Bill (Jodi) Bittinger, Frank Bittinger; grandchildren, Shane, Silas (Kaily), Colt (Brittany), Zane (Brooklyn), Sydni Jane, Robert; great granddaughters, Abbey and Morgan; many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Shirley's caregiver, Dana Cochran, who became a part of her family.
Family and friends are invited to visit Tuesday, December 3, 2019 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Newcomer, Akron Chapel, 131 N. Canton Rd. The funeral service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. A private interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial donations in Shirley's name to the Arlington Church of the Nazarene.
