Shirley M. Mayfield

Shirley M Mayfield, age 72, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023. She was born Nov 22, 1950 Akron, OH to the late Eli and Louise Vickers. She married her longtime friend and love Bernell Mayfield who preceded her in death in 2003.

For 40 yrs Shirley worked as a Domestic worker, retiring at the age of 57 to nurse her late husband Bernell, who passed away from a Vietnam related disability, Agent Orange. She had a vast amount of various achievements but her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, gathering for holidays and special occasions. Her favorite holiday was every holiday because she knew all her loved ones would gather around the table to feast on her amazing meals. To the World she was known as everyone's Mother, But to her family she's known as our World.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Son Bernell Vickers; Siblings Elijah Bartee, Herman (Earline) Vickers, Mary (James) Wyatt, Ronnie Vickers, Mike Vickers, Larry (Juliette) Vickers, and Angeline Bartee-Latson, and brothers-in-law Carter Wyatt, and Oscar Sharpe.
She is survived by her Children Robert Vickers, Bernetta Vickers, Isha Vickers, Step daughter Diane Deck, Special Children Cenita Jefferson, Jerry Jefferson. Grand-Children Lloyd Provitt, Tyrell Vickers, Nyla Brown, Marcellas Deck, Gio Deck, Jay Jones, Donzae Jones and Jontell Junius. Great-grand Children Amarielle,Lloyal, Kar'Daire,Jaliyah and Llondyn. Siblings Elijah"Jr" (Bertha) Vickers, Pearl Sharpe, Jerl Wyatt, Diane Vickers, Evelyn Garr, Linda Vickers, Darnell Vickers, Lyine Vickers, Freeman (Kayla) Vickers; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday August 26, visitation 11am-1pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 131 N Canton Rd Akron. Services will be held right after visitation 1pm-2 Pastor Sandra Howze Officiating, followed by a Celebration at 1222 Honodle Ave Akron Ohio 44305.
