Shirley Myers, 89, of Akron, Ohio passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023 after a long fight with Alzheimer's Disease. A lifelong resident of Akron, Shirley was born to the late Robert and Lona (Myers) Bishop on May 4, 1934.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Harriman and brothers Richard and Robert Bishop.
Shirley is survived by sons Steve (Karen), Dave (Terri) and Don (Judy) Myers; grandchildren Andy, Alyse, Justin, Tyler, Drew, Christie, Bethany, Todd and Ashley; sister Becky (Cal) Bloom; numerous great-grandchildren and extended family members.
Shirley graduated from Ellet High School in 1952. She met Frank, the love of her life, at a church social and they were married in 1954 and remained so until his death in 2022. Shirley was an old-school homemaker who raised her three sons and managed the household. She was a loving, kind, shy person whose family and grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was an animal lover, had a green thumb, and loved time at the beach.
Per Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date, after which she will be laid to rest at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to SouthernCare Hospice, 3575 Forest Lake Dr. #550, Uniontown, OH 44685.
