Shirley Jean Zwick

September 13, 1951 — January 24, 2023

Shirley J. Zwick, 71, of Mogadore, passed away unexpectedly at her home on January 24, 2023. She was born on September 13, 1951 to and the late Franklin and Goldie {Werstler} Speicher.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Roger Zwick who she was married to for 50 years.

Shirley is survived by her loving son Jeffrey Zwick; grandpuppy Maggie Moo; sisters Diane Adams, Gail Bower, Marjorie Barr and Charlene Schwyer; several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

Shirley worked for Summit Auto Racing, where she was one of the early employees. She was loved and revered by her co-workers, and would do anything to help any one of them. Shirley also had a great many friends at the Mogadore VFW 8487, where she would sit and chat for hours.

Per Shirley's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal services.

Words from her son Jeff:

My mother was a once in a lifetime soul who could have won mother of the year for 49 consecutive years. Having her as my mother was a gift from God. The wisdom, attention and care that she put into me was unmatched. Both her and my father had an unmatched work ethic like I have never seen. My childhood was complete and fulfilling, and the sacrifices my mom made for me were above and beyond to this day. A lot of children can not say they grew up in a peaceful loving home. I am fortunate for the love and atmosphere of my home which my mother created. She was always there and willing to help in any situation, in any way she could. Based on my time with her I would have called myself a mama's boy, but based on the sheer number of calls I received from her friends and coworkers, I realized just how much of an impact she had on her workplace and friends. The stories I have heard gave me a new perspective on just how big her heart really is. She was a genuine soul. I was shocked and honored to hear these stories. They made me proud. The way she made people laugh, took time to listen to their issues, gave help and money, as well as taking their minds off the bad and focusing on the good was amazing. My adult relationship with her was fun, and we played practical jokes on each other all the time. I would usually have the upper hand and when she fell for stuff we would just laugh. However, she got the last laugh as I have found things in her home that she planted to get one up on me after she was gone. I will miss her laugh the most, as it was contagious. Sitting with her and plotting and planning stuff in life was fun. My mom literally would have sacrificed anything for me at any moment in time even if I didn't ask for anything. Most of the people reading this will get that from just being around her. Going through life without her will be the hardest thing I will have to do to date. However, I have no fear, as she has equipped me with all the skills necessary to thrive. She was super strong when she needed to be and rose to any and all challenges. I am grateful for everything she is and has done. I am fortunate that our last words were "I love you" I look around today and see the state of the world and I know one thing, It needs more Shirley's. I love you mom!!!

I would also like to give a special shout out to the people that gave me support in this time of shock and disbelief: Paul Simmons, Bill and Bethany Prudden, Bill Ivany, Kandi Gold, Steve Young, Michael Foster, Steve Loukas, Debbie Pratt, Diane Adams, Summit Racing Employees, Darlene Swinger, the Mogadore VFW, and Cathy Neiswanger.

If you have any Shirley stories or memories please post them below. The amount of stories I've been told already has helped immensely with the healing process. Thank you all for being her friend.
