Shomari A. Jackson
Shomari A. Jackson, 29, passed away suddenly on August 24, 2005. He was loved by many friends and family, and will be missed greatly, especially by his younger brothers Mike and Ross. He touched the lives of all those he encountered with his compassion for others; he loved people and saw the good in everyone. He always put others before himself. He was blessed with an amazing sense of humor, intelligence, and a charming smile. He had a great sense of style. Throughout his life, Shomari was an accomplished scholar and athlete. He was on the Merit Role each grading period. When he attended Fairlawn Elementary, he was nominated for a full scholarship to attend the University of Akron. He wrote a story in the 7th grade entitled "I Am Free" about his love for his country. This story was sent to the US Congress. He was also a top math student; his parents were contacted by an Ivy League College in Kentucky to attend. He never saw himself as a minority. When he attended Firestone High, he was a diver on the swim team. He excelled despite being stricken with juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at a very young age. He was also eligible for a scholarship for diving. Shomari also enjoyed playing pool, reading, riding his bike, playing chess, skiing, camping, and anything that involved being around friends. He is survived by his parents Michael and Pam D'Elia; two younger brothers Mike and Ross D'Elia; and a host of friends. Calling hours will be TODAY, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Funeral service Monday, 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Copley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
