Sophie (Mihavics) Jackovic
Sophie (Mihavics) Jackovic, 85, went home to be with the Lord on September 16, 2007. She was born on May 28, 1922 to Charles and Julia Mihavics in Bentleyville, Pennsylvania. Charles and Julia came to the United States from Austria Hungary. Sophie grew up in an ethnic neighborhood in Akron and learned several languages including Polish, Italian, Serbian and Slovenian. During WWII, Sophie worked at Goodyear Aerospace. She married Steve Jackovic on October 20, 1945; started a family and became a homemaker. Paralyzed from a stroke in 1978, Sophie never complained about her disability and always had a smile, a positive attitude and loved life. Her simplistic ways taught us the most meaningful values. The past five years she enjoyed being with her friends at Summit Villa Care Center playing bingo and other activities. Preceded in death by her husband, Steve; brother, Charles; and sister, Mary. She will sadly be missed by her sons, David and Donald (Sheri); granddaughter, Alexis Suhy; brothers, Michael, George and John Mihavics; sisters, Ann Krayeski and Julia Masika. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4 - 8 p.m. concluding with a Parastas Service at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Friends and family may call also on Friday from 9 - 10 a.m. at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 755 S. Cleveland Ave., Mogadore where services will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Nicholas Wyslutsky officiating. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in Mogadore OH.
