Spiros B. Papas
Spiros B. Papas, 87, of Akron, passed away February 17, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 1, 1921 in Athens Greece to the late Vasili & Maria Papayanakis. Spiros left Greece at 17 years old and served with the British Merchant Marines. He later joined the U.S. Army and served in the O.S.S. during WWII where he deployed to Europe. After the war, he lived in Akron, Ohio where he raised his family as an entrepreneur in the restaurant, bar and real estate business. He was a devoted family man and was passionate about his children and grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed traveling and going to the gym. Spiros was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Ahepa and Creatan Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Anne. He is survived by his daughter, Mary (Thomas); son, Paul (Ann); grandchildren, Elizabeth (Jon), Jason, Spiro and Theo; sister, Lela; brother, Taki; niece, Maria; nephew, Bill. Private family services have been held. Memorial contributions may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 129 S. Union St., Akron OH 44304.
