Steven C. Carpenter passed away peacefully on July 6, 2023, at the age of 74. Born in April 1949 in Akron, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Alma Carpenter; Steven was a graduate of Springfield High School, a Purple Heart Vietnam War veteran, a published poet, and an excellent cook. He possessed a remarkable spirit, quick wit, and compassionate nature that endeared him to all who knew him. Deeply rooted in his community, Steve took great solace in sharing his favorite interests with others. He frequently prepared dinner for friends and seldom missed an opportunity to make a home-cooked meal for a neighbor in need of one. He had a deep fascination for all things electronic, an interest that won him much notoriety, as he was frequently called upon to install a new gadget or troubleshoot the Wi-Fi for a friend or neighbor. He had a passion for frugality and enjoyed spending many of his days hunting down bargains and skillfully haggling with merchants, often to procure an item for someone else. Steven leaves behind a legacy of compassion and an unwavering willingness to help others. His good humor and selflessness have left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. Steven was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, David and William. He leaves behind his brother Merle (Pat); sisters Donna (Frank) Rhodes and Martha (Dan) Gabus; numerous nephews and nieces, and his beloved rescue dog Rocky. On July 25, 2023, Steven's remains were laid to rest at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Per his request, no memorial service was held. Anyone wishing to honor his legacy with a donation may do so through the VA and/or APL.
