Suzanne Cable, "Susie" or "The Suz" was born in McKeesport, PA on April 12, 1953 and passed to eternal peace long before her time (only 69 years young) on May 24, 2022, when her courageous battle with chronic liver disease (PSC) ended.
Preceded in death by her parents, Theodore G. (Ted) Sabolcik and Loretta A. Sabolcik, she is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Norman L. Cable and her five brothers, Eugene "Geno" (Mishelle), Jim (Eileen), Mark (Carolyn), Rich (Denise), Ross (Jen) and legions of nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, along with greater numbers of friends, co-workers and supervisors.
She grew up and attended public schools in nearby Duquesne Place (Duquesne, PA) in easy walking distance from Kennywood Amusement Park, where she worked in the summer in Kiddieland, loading the kiddies onto the kiddie rides. There she met such celebrities as The Lone Ranger and Tonto and other TV actors of that time who made appearances at the park.
Susie graduated from Duquesne High School and subsequently attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, transferring to The University of Akron after marrying Norman at Holy Name Church on June 8, 1974. Susie completed her first undergraduate degree there in Clothing and Textiles. (No coincidence that Susie was already a self-taught and accomplished seamstress and tailor in high school.)
Susie's second undergrad degree from Akron U was in computer science, mathematics option. This credential, volunteering and networking eventually won paying jobs at Walsh University Library, Akron General Medical Center Library and her final work as a data analyst in Nursing Staff Development. Susie was obsessive/compulsive about doing her job to the best of her abilities.
Susie worked till she could work no more at CCF/AGMC in Nursing Staff Support as a data analyst. Susie dedicated her computer skills to support nurses, despite the fact that she had no formal nursing background. Most importantly, she knew how to collect and analyze medical information, organize, plan, and coordinate nurse training, edit/proof training presentations, making things happen for her nurses on a real time basis. Susie was also a key player in the implementation of the "Magnet" program at AGMC.
Susie wasn't all work and no play. She loved to travel (imprinted from her family vacations) and has been all over the United States and Europe. Despite growing up in a steel valley, Susie loved wildlife (particularly bears of all species and colors) and the wilderness. She was an experienced tent camper, and inhaled plenty of cooking campfire smoke in the Rockies, surviving on trout, grayling, weenies, hash browns and beans. At times, we collected snow to cool our food whilst the nights camping at 9000 feet were more than chilly in July.
Susie had many self-taught technical skills. Excellent cook, expert tile installer (marble, travertine, quarry, ceramic) and painter. Susie's favorite hobby was photography, and of course she knew how to take and convert photographs into works of art and hardcopy photo essay books about trips to Alaska, Wyoming and Montana. She created volumes of photographic images of animals, landscapes and just about anything which was worthy of being imaged. Her favorite camera was probably her Sony Alpha 36 shot "assault" film camera with 400mm telephoto lens. She especially liked furry critters (bears +++), loons, elk, bison, mule deer and bigger birds like eagles and sand hill cranes.
Above all, Susie loved her family and was always there for them. The same applies to her many friends. We miss her deeply, but she expects us to move on with our lives. That is her assignment for anyone who cares about her.
Susie specifically wished to be cremated with no visitation, no funeral, no celebration of life and made arrangements for her cremains to be taken to their final resting place in Hawaii.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Newcomer Funeral Home, Akron.
