Sylvia Jean Dodson

October 17, 1937 — December 25, 2020

Longtime Greentown resident, Sylvia Jean (Powell) Dodson, was taken home on December 25, 2020 at 5:40 am, and became an angel. She was the loving and very strong matriarch of our family.
She was born in Fairmont, West Virginia on October 17, 1937 to James and Dorothy (Shaffer) Powell. The oldest of four children, all born in their home, she is preceded in death by her parents and brother Edward Lee. She is survived by her brother, James (Kay) Powell of Akron, Ohio and sister, Ruthann (Jim) Blankenship from Daytona Beach, Florida.
Sylvia is mother to eleven children, and grandmother to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a LPN for 30 years, working mainly in nursing homes. She loved taking care of people. Sylvia was very kind-hearted and would help anyone out if she could. She was a very hard worker and never gave up on working for things to be better for her and her family. She had a very challenging life, but also an awesome heart.
Our family hopes she is happy in Heaven, seeing everyone again as we will all do one day. We love her sooo much and she deserves to be happy. She always welcomed the neighborhood kids into our home. Many of them would call her "Mom". They enjoyed her homemade bread, fresh from the oven, and her fried chicken - they were yummy. She also loved to watch us all play baseball and softball. She was a great cheerleader and very enthusiastic.
We will miss her dearly and she will be in our hearts forever. She is now joined with her children who preceded her in death: Stevie Dodson(6/1964), Larry Dodson (8/1967), Kim Reil (8/2018), and Eddie Dodson (6/2020). Left to carry on her legacy are her surviving children: Chris Dodson, Gene (Patty) Dodson, Becky (Debbie) Dodson, Dorothy (Gary) Noble, Jeff Dodson, Lori (Larry) Muiter, and Shelley Knutty.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sylvia's family. A celebration of her life and interment at Greentown Cemetery will be held at a later date and announced in the newspaper.
