Sylvia J. Keener
On Sunday, April 17, 2011, Sylvia J. Keener broke free from the bonds of this earth, to join her loving mother Erika Zanes, infant son Jason, and Godmother/Aunt Elise Moncur, to become God's newest angel in the kingdom of heaven. Born in Mannheim, Germany two days before Christmas in 1956, Sylvia leaves us to mourn her passing after a long and courageous 10 year battle with cancer. She enjoyed life to its fullest in her short 54 years on this earth. She was here long enough to watch her two children grow and become parents themselves. They blessed her with three wonderful grandchildren. Sylvia worked and made many friends at both Tacoma Products and Janco Company. She enjoyed many things in her life but none more important to her than spending what time she could being the best Grandma (MeeMaw) anyone could ever ask for. Sylvia is survived by her fiance and longtime caregiver, Roy Lloyd; son, Bobby (Misty); and daughter, Amanda "Mandi" (Paul); grandchildren, Aidan, Mikayla, and Layla all of Akron. Also to mourn her passing, her father, William Zanes of Akron; brothers, Bill (Glenna) of Texas, Thom (Jan) of Akron, and sister, Karen Thomas of Tallmadge; Godfather/Uncle John Moncur; and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephew from both the U.S. and Germany, her numerous friends and the father of her children, Robert Keener. The family would like to thank the Cleveland Clinic and Summa Western Reserve Hospital for their tireless effort in keeping Sylvia with us for 10 hard years. A special thank you to Peter, Angelica, and Colleen her R.N.'s for their extreme compassion, professionalism, and exceptional care.
"God saw that you were getting tired,
and a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you
And whispered, "Come home with ME."
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer,
And saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly,
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
A determined spirit was at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best."
Calling hours will be Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Larry Engel officiating. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made at any First Merit Bank in Sylvia's memory.
