Sylvia Kay Jefferies

Sylvia Kay Jefferies, age 73, left the world unexpectedly in her sleep on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was born on March 18, 1951, in Akron, Ohio to the late Felix Alderson and Betty Jo Williams. 

She graduated from North High School class of 1969. Sylvia received her Bachelor's degree in accounting in 1981 and went on to receive her Master’s degree in technical education in 1989 from the University of Akron. She worked several years in the accounting field at BFGoodrich. Then received her Real Estate license, and went on to retire from the United States Postal Service after 29 years of service on February 29, 2024. 

Sylvia loved cats and always had kittens throughout her lifetime and often loved talking about her stories with one cat named Figaro. Sylvia was adventurous, outspoken and passionate. Holidays were very special to her especially St. Patrick’s Day and Fourth of July. Her favorite colors are Purple and Green the colors found in the hyacinth plant and the ever changing Red Amaryllis bulb plant. She loves the smell of Lilac and Lavender to Honeysuckle and Lily. Any colorful variety of flowers with purple or St. Patricks day themes. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Sabrina, and they enjoyed many adventures together including travel and festivals across the country.

Sylvia was fortunate to realize her dream trip with her daughter throughout Europe on an International adventure by Train, Auto, Sea and Airplane. The adventure included a birthday celebration in Ireland; touring Scotland Castles and traveling by train to explore London. They took the Chunnel to Brussels, Belgium to enjoy Belgium’s world famous chocolate and waffles. From Belgium they traveled by train to Paris, France. In France, Sylvia delighted in speaking French which was a language she started studying in elementary school and practiced throughout her life. She was excited to have a room with a view of the Eiffel Tower and enjoyed time at Walt Disney Paris, France. Upon leaving France, they flew to Rome, Italy for Easter and spent time at the Vatican. Then onto Florence, by train where they saw the art of Michelangelo. While in Italy, they continued onto Venice, where they rode a gondola and enjoyed the beauty of Venice in boat rides around the city. They left Italy behind and flew to Barcelona, Spain where they took in the beauty of Sagrata Familia and explored all around the city including the Olympic Village and Futbol(Soccer) Stadium's in Barcelona and Madrid. Next they traveled by train to Madrid and watched a bull fight as well as Flamenco dancers. Nearing the end of trip they took a similar Rick Steve's style tour around the city. They returned back home with amazing experiences, fulfilling her lifetime dream and sharing it with her daughter. 

Sylvia is survived by her daughter Sabrina Jefferies; her brother Roger Williams, previous husband Sherman Jefferies; her cousins Carl, Richard(Lee), Robin, and Sue Cooley, and Kathy Perich. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends including her three beloved kittens named Queenie, Teenie, and Beanie. 

She was preceded in death by mother Betty Jo Williams and Felix Alderson Williams; and cousin Bob Williams and sister Felicia Williams.

Donations can be made to the Sylvia Jefferies Memorial Fund. Flowers are also welcomed at the future memorial. 

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 29, 2025, at Garden City Church, 305 S. Portage Path, Akron, OH.
