Sylvia M. Evans, 70, passed away on June 28, 2009. She was born on March 7, 1939 to the late Carsey and Loretta Harlin. Sylvia retired from Akron General Medical Center after 13 years of service. She was an avid Bingo player and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Evans; twin brother Sidney; and grandchild Shane Oliver. Survivors include her daughters Pamela (Jenny Rains) Stauffer and Jackie Scotton; sons Robert (Faith) Stauffer, Richard (Tammy) Stauffer, and Randy (Robin) Evans; sisters Betty McAnalley, Dolores Drumm, and Jeanne (Ernie) Jessmer; brother James Harlin; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Special thanks to Hospice Care Center and Sylvia's dear sisters for their care and support during her illness. Calling hours will be Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to help with funeral expenses.
