Theodora S. Ruth

February 10, 1923 — March 28, 2022

Theodora "Teddy" Ruth (nee Skaliotis), died peacefully on March 28, 2022 in Akron, Ohio at the age of 99.

Cherished mother of Barry Ruth (Brenda) of Mansfield, Texas, Robin Ruth (John Eichenlaub) of Akron and Laurie Ruth of Chicago; grandmother to Diana Cardwell (Brian), Lauren Ruth (Casey O'Bryant), Meredith Eichenlaub, Kevin Eichenlaub and Julia Ruth; great-grandmother to Ronin and Reina Cardwell, Bodhi and Jameson O'Bryant, and Kei'Nell Eichenlaub. Dear sister to Connie Martin.

Teddy was preceded in death by her parents Christ Marion and Fannie (nee Stremonaa) Skaliotis; her beloved husband, Jack; and her sisters, Mary Redus and Frances Reed.

Teddy was born in Denver, Colorado on February 10, 1923. Her first language was Greek. She met her husband Jack in Denver after he was discharged from the Navy at the end of WWII and moved to his hometown of Elyria, Ohio, soon after. They were married for 63 years. She enjoyed gambling and yearly meet ups in Las Vegas with family members. When her youngest daughter, Laurie, entered kindergarten, Teddy took a full-time job at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, where she worked for twenty years until her retirement. Trips to Europe, the Middle East, China, South America, and Greece with her sisters followed over the years.

She loved to garden and enjoyed working on and redecorating her home. Rummikub games with family were a favorite past time and she was a regular watcher of Jeopardy until her death. She bowled in leagues into her 90's. She was a passionate fan of the Cleveland Indians - they will never be the Guardians to Teddy - and took it personally when they lost. She followed politics closely and was an elections judge for decades.

Family was the center of Teddy's life. She adored her children and grandchildren. An early and avid user of technology, she loved seeing the latest pictures on her iPhone and Face Timing with her great-grandchildren. She was loving, caring, generous, forgiving, funny, hard-working, exceptionally resilient, and most of all dedicated to her family. She will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held April 4, 2022 at 12:00 pm, where Rev. Patti Verde will celebrate her life. To view the Celebration of Life by live streaming click here.
