Thomas P. DeMita, "Tom", age "39", of Akron, Ohio, died on June 20, 2018.
He was born in Akron on March 12, 1935, the son of the late Thomas and Lydia (nee DiMascio) DeMita.
Tom was a 1953 graduate of North High School and he attended Akron University and was in the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity.
He retired from the US Postal Service and Nabisco.
On August 2, 1970 he married his wife of 41 years, Florence (nee Hudkins) and took on the loving role of father to her 6 children. He enjoyed sitting on his porch with friends and family, having a cocktail, writing letters to the editor of the Akron Beacon Journal and was very passionate about his politics. Tom also loved to visit various casinos and gamble. He was a fun and devoted grandfather and great-grandfather.
Those honored to call him father are, Rebecca Higgins, Kimberly (Tom) Sain, David (Gayle) Bird, Colleen (Brett) Padgett, Jennifer (Mike) Mercer, and Roger (Erin) Bird; 12 grandchildren, Krissy, Nicole, Brittany, Sean, Kyle, Heather, David, Morgan, Hunter, Mackenzie, Jordan, and Emma; his nine great-grandchildren; his brother also survives, Jerry F. (Sandy) DeMita; and his one nephew and two nieces.
Other than his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his loving wife Florence on September 27, 2011.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 1:00 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 North Canton Road, Akron, where Pastor Diane Richmond will celebrate Tom's life.
Family and friends are invited to attend not only the services on Monday but calling hours on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in Tom's memory.
