Thomas E. Bordenkircher

August 16, 1930 — February 1, 2012

Thomas Edward ("Tom") Bordenkircher, 81, of 419 Crystal Street in Akron, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 after a 5-year battle with Alzheimer Disease, which he waged courageously with the loving support and care of his family, remaining at home until just a month before his death.
He was born in Akron on August 16, 1930 to Sylvester and Garnet (Mills) Bordenkircher. He spent his early years with his large family of twelve siblings in Kenmore, before the family moved to Cuyahoga Falls. In 1948 he graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School, and was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in Korea with the 25th Infantry Division. On June 25, 1955 he married the love of his life, Norma Jean (Lewis) Bordenkircher, settling in Akron to raise a family of four children, five grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
He worked at Nye Rubber Company for several years after his marriage, then at the J. P. Loomis Concrete Company until 1976, and Tramonte Distributing Company until his retirement. Tom was an avid golfer, bowler, and card player. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and memorable vacations with his family (many to the Outer Banks), and cruises with close friends and family. He enjoyed music, especially polka music, and he played the accordion. Tom was a hard worker, and loyal husband and father, enjoying time spent with his grandchildren, who loved his playfulness and sense of humor. He was known to laugh a lot, whistle, and play a practical joke now and then! He was a member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Akron, and past member of the Italian-American Club of Cuyahoga Falls.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, James (Jerry), Robert, Richard, Frances (Red), John, and William Bordenkircher, and sister, Martha Snyder. He is survived by wife Norma, and children Barry, Brian (Nancy), Karen Musleve, and Kirk (Lorena) Bordenkircher; grandchildren Rachel Musleve, Kirk Bordenkircher Jr., Brian Thomas Bordenkircher, Stephen Bordenkircher, and Phelan Green, and great grandson Isaiah Musleve. Also surviving are sisters Joan Kianos of Spartanburg, S. C. and Judith Gregory of Akron; brothers Philip Bordenkircher of Norton, Dennis (Mary Jane) Bordenkircher of Massillon, Kenneth (Gerri) Bordenkircher of Cowpens, S. C., along with many nieces and nephews, and Kim Bordenkircher and Pete Musleve.
Tom's life will be celebrated with a memorial service with Rev. Jeffrey Davis officiating at Emmanuel United Church of Christ (1480 Eastwood Ave, Akron) on Monday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends may visit for one hour prior to the service. Tom's family wishes to thank the staff of Summa Hospital Palliative Care Unit and Summa Hospice for their help and support, and the staff of Falls Village for their service and patience! They request any memorial gifts be made to Emmanuel United Church of Christ or the Alzheimer's Association. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (330) 784-3334
