Thomas J. Haag, 80, of Akron, passed away December 28, 2010. Tom was born in Akron on January 15, 1930 to the late Melvin and Marie Haag. Tom began working at the age of twelve as a window washer in downtown Akron. Throughout his life, he worked as a baker and owned and operated a gasoline business for eleven years. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber after 30 years of service. Tom also served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church since 1967. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sally; son, James; brothers, Paul (Edith), George (Kathryn), Joseph (Doris), and John; and sisters, Thelma (Art) Connor, Catherine (Bill) Green, and Margaret Kraus. He will be deeply missed by his children, Thomas P. Haag, Linda (Mark) Trushel, and Nicholas Haag; grandchildren, Kaitlin Trushel, Jessica Trushel, Matthew Haag, and Robert Trushel; sister-in-law, Dorothy Haag; brother-in-law, Robert Kraus; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Haag. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. Prayers will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. funeral mass at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton Ave. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
