Thomas Richard Shambaugh "Dick", 88, of Cuyahoga Falls, went home to be with the Lord on December 8, 2020, his 65th wedding anniversary. He was born in Vermilion Township, Ohio on February 10, 1932 to the late Thomas and Mary Shambaugh. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy. After his honorable discharge from the service, Dick married Betty Barnett on December 8, 1955. Dick had a lifelong love of flying. He was a licensed pilot and worked for the Civil Air Patrol for many years. He was a mentor to many younger pilots and belonged to an organization that rebuilt antique planes. He retired from PIE Trucking after many years of service. He loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing on his boat. Dick and Betty were longtime members of Ernest Angley's Grace Cathedral and longtime volunteers in the ministry.
Dick was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Michelle Renee; son, Richard; grandchildren, Tommy and Jessica; and brothers, Franklin and Elmer. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Betty; son, Dalon (Annette); daughter, Trisha (James) Ray; grandchildren, Kelley (Tyler) Murray, Krista (Rob) Hinson, Ryan, and Jamie; and many great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 from 10:00 - 12:00 followed by a 12:00 noon funeral service at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Interment at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will be private. For the safety of the Shambaugh family and their guests, masks are required along with social distancing.
