Thomas Smith

Thomas B. Smith, born July 24, 1932, passed away June 23, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Thomas lived in Akron and was a member of Annunciation Church. He graduated from St. Vincent High School and later served in the U.S. Army. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service. In his free time, Thomas enjoyed all sports, including golf, baseball, and football. He was a member of a bowling league at the Rollaway Lanes for many years. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice; wives, Marlene and Harriet; sisters, Julie Burris and Theresa Smith; stepchildren, David White, Dan White, and Dana Archer. He is survived by his daughters, Amanda Smith (Diane) and Erica Smith (Steve); stepchildren, Mark Snyder (Linda) and Denise Punka; sisters, Margie (Jim) Gerry and Marilyn Sferra; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., with a service at 4 p.m. A gathering will be held at Amanda and Diane's home after the service. A memorial Mass will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Annunciation Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
