Thomas Patrick Woodliff, age 84, a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2024. Born on October 5, 1939, in Akron, Thomas lived a full and vibrant life, marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his passions.
Thomas proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting on November 26, 1958, receiving an honorable discharge on February 27, 1962. During his military service, he earned commendations as a Marksman, Sharpshooter, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
On December 3, 1960, Thomas married his love, Linda Jane Dugger. Together, they shared a wonderful marriage that lasted until Linda’s passing on November 1, 2023. They were blessed with five children and always worked hard to provide everything that their children needed. Thomas was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished every moment spent with his family, especially during holiday gatherings.
In their earlier years, Thomas and Linda enjoyed fishing, hiking, and dining at their favorite restaurants. Their love for card games was a lifelong passion, one that continued until their passing. Thomas was also an avid sports fan with an impressive knowledge of baseball statistics. He taught his children how to play various sports and was their biggest supporter, always present in the stands, cheering them on.
Until his later years, Thomas enjoyed quiet evenings watching Jeopardy with Linda, where their vast knowledge of trivia often shone through. Known for his stubbornness and occasional unreasonable moments, Thomas was also a man who admitted his faults and believed deeply in the power of forgiveness and the grace of our great Lord.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father Clarence, mother Etta, brothers Ray, Robert, James, and Joseph, sisters Dorothy and Ruth, wife Linda, and daughter Christine. He is survived by his children, Thomas (Mia) Woodliff II, Tammy (Dennis) Alexander, John Woodliff, and Wendy (Shelley) Waecliff; grandchildren, Michelle, Tiffany, Jeffrey, Chelsea, Alyssa, Joey, Lauren, Jason, and Johel; great-grandchildren, Tye, Brianna, Ethan, Layla, Kieran, Kellan, and Sophia; close friends, Pam and Jay Murphy; and many other family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Thomas was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. His love, dedication, and knowledge will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday June 30, 2024 at 2 PM at the private residence of his daughterTammy, 116 Hillview Dr., Akron 44319. Military honors and final resting will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a future date.
