Tommy Burkett

Tommy Burkett, 55, received his wings on January 1, 2021. When Tommy was born, his mother Elaine was told that she was blessed to give birth to such a special baby. She was told he was going to need a lot of care. God guided her with strength and the ability to provide the care needed. For 29 years he never left her side with the exception of going to school, and as he got older going to work. He attended the Medina County Achievement Center from age 4 until age 44. At age 29, Barbie Knoll began to provide care for Tommy. In 2006 she became his guardian and in 2010 he resided with her.

Tommy had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed carrying his bubbles, singing songs, dancing, bowling, listening to and watching train videos, balloons (especially hot air balloons), playing basketball and "duck duck goose," and arm wrestling. He loved giving kisses and shaking hands. Tommy also enjoyed days filled with flash cards and his puzzles.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Earl and Lena Mae Fulton; grandfather John Burkett; nephews, James Ramsey Harkness Jr. and Micheal Worthington; and step-dad, Bill Benchoff. Tommy is survived by his mother, Elaine and Bill Mullin; father, Tom and Peggy Burkett; siblings, Denise Harkness, Tanya and Tommy Bonar, Danny Burkett, Kyle Burkett; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; his special angel, Barbie Knoll and Jay Shumate; and best buddie, Paul Fletcher. A special thanks to House of New Hope and Dr. Finneran for all of special care over the years.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron. Per health department regulations, masks must be worn and social distancing must be observed. Cremation will take place at a later date.
