Tommy Joe Jones

November 6, 1946 — June 9, 2020

Tommy Joe Jones, age 73 of Akron passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. He was born on November 6, 1946 in Matheny, WV to the late Christopher and Dorothy {White} Jones.

Tommy was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Dickie Thompson, and his beloved pets T.J., Joey, Buddy, and Spooky.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 15 years, Barbara; daughters Tammy Neace and Christy (Mike) Ries; grandchildren Corey Belcher, Nathan Harper, Mary DeLuca, Daniel Harper, Dominic DeLuca, Michael Ries, Meaghan Neace, Logan Neace, Tyler Ries, and Carter Ries; great-grandchildren Emmalynn Neace, Myles Harper, Hudson West, Lydia Ries, Ryleigh Neace and Carter West; brother, Jimmy (Sue) Jones; sisters, Jackie Blankenship and Johnnie Jones; mother-in-law Genene Katz; brother-in-law Timothy Carmichael; sister-in-law Robin Thompson; blended family members Alyssa Carmichael, Robyn Baker, Ashley Baker, Danielle Baker, Alyssa Baker, Anthony Baker, Aundre Baker and Alanna Baker; many nieces and nephews; and so many wonderful friends, who loved him dearly.

Tommy retired from General Motors after 32 years of service. He loved fast cars and motorcycles, tinkering and building things in his garage. Tommy used his creativity and skills to do home improvements, and make gifts for his family. He also enjoyed traveling and vacationing with his wife, kids and grandkids. Tommy was a father that enjoyed coaching his daughters in softball, was there for every activity they were involved in, and loved his role as dad, grandad and great-grandad. The night he met his love, Barbara, he asked her to dance, and from that day on, her life has been a fairytale. They called each other "Lady and the Tramp."

Heaven welcomed you with open arms. You are now with Mother and Daddy (Pap), at ease in your new home. We know you are looking down on us, that you will always be with us, and we look forward to seeing you again, in Heaven.

Per Tommy's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date. To leave a message for Tommy's family, please visit the guestbook below.
