Valdia G. Shorb (nee Young), 92, went home to be with the Lord on December 14, 2010. She was a life long member of the Springfield Church of the Brethren where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a deacon, choir member, youth counselor and many other functions. Valdia was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Henry W. Shorb; parents, Harvey and Eva Young; siblings, Russell (Elizabeth) Young, Elsie (Carl) Wiley, Alvin (Dorothy) Young, Royal (Florence) Young and Harvey Joseph (Genevieve) Young; and granddaughter, Holly Shorb Long. She is survived by her children, Brian H. Shorb of Fairfax, VA, Royal D. (Sandra) Shorb of Chino Valley, AZ, Bernita D. Shorb of Akron, OH, and Evanola O. Davis of Mogadore, OH; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; 2 great-great-grandsons; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Valdia will be greatly missed by all. Calling hours will be held Monday, December 20, from 6 to 8 pm at the Springfield Church of the Brethren, 3500 Albrecht Ave, Akron, 44312 where a service will be held Tuesday, December 21, at 11 am with a visitation 1 hour prior. Pastors Andrew Hamilton and Kris Hawk will be officiating. Burial to follow at Maple Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the church in her memory.
