Vaughan L. Hanlon

December 18, 1928 — January 5, 2014

Vaughan L. Hanlon, 85, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2013 after a short illness. He was born in Pataskala, OH on December 18, 1928, graduated from Cuyahoga Falls H.S., attended Purdue University and lived most of his life in the Akron area. Vaughan retired from Ohio Edison over 20 years ago.

He was a devoted father, husband and an avid bowler. He was known for his witty sense of humor. Greeting him in heaven are his parents Albert and Lucy Hanlon, brother, Albert Jr. and sister, Marilyn. Vaughan is survived by his wife of 59 years, Genevieve (Harland); sister, Carolyn Benford of Alabama; daughter, Sue (Tim) Strebler of Tallmadge; sons, Rick of Rittman, Greg (May) of CT, James (Adrienne) of Akron; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Callings hour will be on Thursday, January 9, from 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. A funeral mass will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 476 Mull Ave., Akron on Friday, January 10 at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Haven of Rest, 175 E. Market St., Akron 44308.
