Veelia R. Wright

Veelia R. Wright, 85, of Akron, passed away on May 29, 2023. She was born in Elmore County, AL on September 4, 1937 to the late Jethropetell and Rudolph Neely Hannon.

In addition to her parents, Veelia was preceded in death by her husband John Frank, children Melvin and Kendra Wright, and grandson Marquel Wright.

Veelia worked as a head cook for Akron City Hospital for over 40 years, and her talent for cooking and baking was thoroughly enjoyed by her family and friends. When she wasn't in the kitchen, she could be found watching one of her favorite soap operas and spoiling her grandbabies.

Veelia is survived by her loving son, Julius Wright; grandchildren Tamaris Wright, Johnny Wright, Melvin Wright Jr., Marquis Wright and Latora Weaver; great-grandchildren Jamar, Tamia and Tiyani Wright; great-great-grandchildren Zakari and Zamar; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Saturday, June 10th from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. A brief funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, where Veelia will be laid to rest near her son Melvin and grandson Marquel.
