Velda Elma {Tharp} Axline Graham

Velda passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, from natural causes. She was born January 3, 1923, in Ontario, Oregon, to the late William and Dorothy {Haines} Tharp.

Velda attended Ellet High School, and was a resident of the Gables of Green. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, hiking and camping when she was able. She was a member of Clearview United Methodist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was most proud of her career as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II.

She was preceded in death by husbands William Axline and Robert Graham; son William D. Axline; two brothers William and Robert Tharp; four sisters Earline Karipedes, Helen Mollette, Della Michaels and Joan Lupton.

She is survived by sons Richard Russell (Laurie) Axline of Fultondale, AL and Terry Lee (Phyllis) Axline of Uniontown, OH and daughter-in-law Teri (William Dennis) Axline of North Benton, OH; grandchildren William (Laura) Axline II, Jeremy Axline, Melissa (Joe) Speck, Stacey George, Shawn Axline, Heather (Joe) Soucek, Michelle Axline, Jason Axline, Colleen (Quenton) Tuckett, Anastasia (Matthew) Bowen, Luke Miller, Holly Axline, Kristin Axline, Chad Axline; brother James (Gerda) Tharp of Akron and sister Dorothy Riley of Cleveland; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2022. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m., with a graveside committal to follow at Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, 44312, where Velda will be laid to rest with William Axline.
