"Absent from the body and to be present with the Lord," those were the words my mother lived by.
Verdell Page Nail, 91, of Akron, went to be with the Lord on September 8, 2018. She was born on August 7, 1927 to the late John and Pearl Page. She was a graduate of Garfield High School, and worked as a supervisor for the Bell company in Akron for several years. She met Everett, from Piper's Gap, Virginia, and the two were married for 66 years.
She was very active at Grace Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She loved her children and grandchildren. She used to take us kids hiking in the mountains of Piper's Gap (Bobby, Jackie, Scotty, Kathy, Linda, Brenda, Terry and Jane).
Verdell was not shy to offer her opinion. She was notorious for staying up late and making fudge that would always be gone by the morning. I will miss the long, heartfelt conversations with my mother. Verdell will be deeply missed.
In addition to her parents, Verdell was preceded in death by her husband, Everett F. Nail; and her younger sister, Doris A. Shepherd.
Left to cherish Verdell's memory are her children, William Jimmy (Dee), Robert (Deborah), Jacqueline (John); 7 grandchildren, Rusty, Kelly, Justyn, Jacob, Jillian, Adam, and Haylee; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Icie Hinkle; several nieces and nephews; many friends, including longtime neighbor, Rosie; her caregivers, Demita and Michelle; and her honorary son, Rik.
