Verona "Vernie" M. Corall
Verona "Vernie" M. Corall, 79, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2008, surrounded by the love of her family. Vernie was born in Johnstown, PA on January 10, 1929. Her family moved to Akron in June of 1943 where she met the love of her life, Lawrence "Larry" Corall in July of 1943. They dated through high school and during Larry's stint in the Air Force before marrying on June 23, 1951. They were blessed with three children and raised them together in a home filled with love, faith and Christian values. Vernie was a devout Catholic, and was proud of her faith. This was demonstrated by her willingness to give unselfishly of herself to help others when it was needed. She was very involved in parish life at St. Peter Church until it's closing, which caused her to join Immaculate Conception Church. She was active in the Altar & Rosary Society before moving to Ellet and joining St. Matthew Church. Her deteriorating health forced her to give up her many activities, the hardest being her privilege to serve as a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of St. Peter's Grandmothers Club, Kenmore AARP, the Legion of Mary, and The Associates of St. Joseph at Hoban High School. At Hoban, she was active in the Booster Club and was a cheerleader adviser for two years. Vernie was proud to have served on the Catholic Commission Task Force. She was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Council of Catholic Women at St. Matthew where she enjoyed helping to make nut rolls and cabbage rolls for bazaars. Most importantly, Vernie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She zealously supported her children and grandchildren in all of their endeavors and was their biggest cheerleader. She loved to attend any and all of their sporting events and dance recitals. Vernie was preceded in death by her dear parents, George and Elizabeth Stoyanoff; her brother, Staff Sergeant William Stoyanoff; and her sister, Betty Parkinson. She was deeply loved and will be sadly missed by her beloved husband, Larry; her sons, daughter and their spouses, Larry and Sue Corall, Mary Beth and Bill Sobleskie, Tom and Mary Corall; her grandchildren, Bill (Stephanie) Sobleskie, Tom Corall, Jr., Heather (Clay) Hicks, Danny Corall, Timmy Corall, Annie Corall, Billy, Tracy and Paul Vuolo; great-grandchildren, Isabell Sobleskie, Miranda, Alex and Juliana Hicks. Vernie will also be missed by her husband's brothers and their spouses and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. on Wednesday, December 3 from 4 to 8 p.m., where prayers will be held on Thursday, December 4 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, 2603 Benton Ave. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family would sincerely like to thank the staff at The Summit Villa Care Center for the loving care they provided these past few months. They also send their deepest gratitude to the staff at Akron General Medical Center, and will be forever grateful to the wonderful staff at The Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice Care Center for their compassionate support and the gentle, dignified care they provided to Vernie in her final days. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army or the Haven of Rest. Her family and friends will forever cherish Vernie's legacy of love. "We love you around the world and back again."
