Vevie A. Conley
Vevie A. Conley, 92, left us on November 23, 2009 to rejoin her husband, Victor in heaven. Born April 12, 1917, she married her High School sweetheart on August 14, 1935. They shared 51 years together until his death in 1985. Ve missed her graduation ceremony in 1936 to take care of her ailing mother. But last April, In-House Hospice arranged for her East High diploma to be presented at a surprise graduation ceremony attended by friends, family, and the press. Always on the go, she traveled extensively, yet still found the time to involve herself in many organizations. Very well versed, she was always first choice in our family Trivial Pursuit games. She retired from B&W in 1981 with 38 years service. With a generous spirit, Ve delighted in doing good deeds and sharing her blessings with others. She was a proud lady, with a quick wit and warm heart, who never met a stranger. Our matriarch is gone and will be sadly missed by daughter, Vicki (Dick) Steele, granddaughter, Lori (Glen) Hamrick, step-granddaughters, Cindy Shumski, Darlene Lowery, and Fay Gohl, ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and special friend, Mary Foster. A special thanks to her nurses and caregivers at Pebble Creek and her very special team at In-House Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, November 25 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., and from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, November 27 followed by a 10:00 funeral service conducted by Pastor Ken Gifford. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. At Vevie's request, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Johnson United Methodist Church, 3409 Johnson Rd., Barberton.
