Vince Mealy, 49, of Springfield Township, passed away December 15, 2010. He was born in Akron on November 28, 1961 and was a lifelong resident of Springfield Twp. Vince graduated from Springfield High School and earned his Master's degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Akron. His previous employers include the Akron Area YMCA, Akron General Wellness Center, Westfield Insurance, Concorde Therapy, and the CYC Community Recreation Center. He served as a Springfield Twp. Trustee from 2006-2009. Vince most treasured his faith, family, friends, and passion for his community, Springfield Twp. He also enjoyed the outdoors and time spent with his dog, Riley. Vince valued and genuinely listened to every person he encountered. The relationships he built over the years were priceless to him. Vince will be dearly missed by many. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest "Ernie" Mealy; father-in-law, Richard Floto; and daughter, Alanna Marie Mealy. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 20 years, Janet Mealy; mother, Alberta "Bertie" Mealy; children, Rachel, Maria, and Jared; brothers, Fred (Cindy) Mealy and Dave Mealy; nephews, Jeff (Jill) Mealy and Steve Mealy; close cousin, Bob Mealy; dog, Riley; and numerous other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses, doctors, and staff of Summa Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic for their outstanding support and care. Family and friends may visit on Sunday from 2-6 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2603 Benton St., Akron. A funeral mass will be held at the church on Monday at 12:00 noon. Please meet at church. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made for the children to the Mealy Family Benevolent Fund at any First Merit Bank.
