Virgie Faye Yoak
Virgie Faye Yoak, age 89, formerly of Green, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 21, 2008. She was born May 9, 1918 to Oakie and Nellie Norman, a full-term baby weighing just two pounds. She married William Johnson Yoak in 1935, and they spent 49 years together before his death in 1984. Virgie worked for many years as a cafeteria worker in Green, OH. She enjoyed quilting and crocheting, but her greatest joy was caring for her family and spending time with them. Besides her husband, Virgie was preceded in death by her granddaughter Cindy Summers; daughters Martha Abernathy and Mary Summers; sons-in-law Jim Miller and Dick Summers; two sisters and a brother. She is survived by her children Hazel (William) Hyland, Jean (Kenneth) Christner, William (Jeannie), David (Judy), Rod (Donna), and Dan (Sue); 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Bennett and Thelma Collins; and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd. on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. A celebration of Virgie's life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Glenn Rogers, Jr. officiating. Interment will take place at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Grantsville, WV. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to Temple Baptist Church Heart to Heart Ministry.
