Virgil Griffin

Virgil V.J. Griffin, 90, of Tallmadge, passed away February 15, 2017. V.J. was born in Waynesburg, Kentucky on August 3, 1926 to the late Mitchell and Retna Griffin. V.J. was a veteran of the U.S. Army and he worked for many years at City Chevrolet, Akron McNeil and Alcar. He was a member of Southeast Church of The Nazarene and he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, gardening, mechanic work and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, V.J. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosetta and 10 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his daughter, Judy (Harry) Nicholson; and son, Rodney Griffin; 4 brothers; grandchildren, Tina (Brian) Chase, Travis (Ginger) Nicholson, Shawn (Rachel) Nicholson and R.J. Griffin (Mindy Zura) and 14 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 11 am until time of funeral service at 1 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Road, Akron. Interment at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Summa or Adena Hospice.
