Virgil Lewis Hornick

Virgil Lewis Hornick, 92, of Akron, passed away September 18, 2022. Virgil was born in Lost Creek, West Virginia on June 6, 1930 to Virgil A. and Vera Hornick. He was raised in Lost Creek along with his sister, Helen and brother, Jimmy. Virgil graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in Clarksburg, West Virginia. From there he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Hollister and the USS Quincy from 1951 to 1955.
He then moved to Akron, Ohio where he met the love of his life, Margie Brown. They married on July 6, 1958 and had two children: Tim and Margie Darlene.
Virgil was an avid woodworker and built beautiful furniture. He was also gifted with the knowledge of auto restoration. In the summer, he loved tending his vegetable garden.
Virgil enjoyed traveling to Navy reunions all across the country to reunite with his shipmates.
Virgil worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1992.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Margie Hornick; sister, Helen Hornick; son, Tim Hornick; grandchildren, Nick Lucas (fiancee, Kelly Damalas), Jesse Hornick, and Natalie (Camilo) Guerrero; great-grandchildren, Ivy Rose Guerrero, Oliver Guerrero, and Norah Guerrero.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jimmy; and daughter, Margie.
Family and friends may visit on Thursday, September 29, 2022 from 4-7 p.m. at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd, Akron.
A procession will form at the funeral home on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. Cemetery services will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
