Virginia Nell Smith (Hamlett)

Virginia Nell Smith (Hamlett), of Akron, peacefully passed away at her residence and went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2004. She was born in Fork Ridge, Tennessee to the late Clayton Fred & Cora Louise (Ownby) Hamlett. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Virginia was the most dedicated homemaker and helpmate to her husband and daughters for over 63 years. She loved her family unconditionally and was totally selfless. She always thought of others before herself and thats why she was called "Mom G" by hundreds that loved her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Miriam Burns; granddaughter, Denise Russell. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Rev. Willie C. Smith of Akron; daughter, Barbara N. (Ernie) Coffy of Huber Heights, Ohio; 3 granddaughters; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Rice and Joyce Conn; brothers, James and Doyle Hamlett; her church family and many dear friends. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 704 N. Firestone Blvd. where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Phil Hulgin and Rev. Bob Stephens officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 704 N. Firestone Blve., Akron OH 44306
